About Last week... written this week

it was a pretty cool week last week... Hockey was fun - I did goalie (with the hockey rink's equipment) and i am ok when i have good pads. I also am starting to really feel natural on skates and it feels really good. I also watched the movie "Hero" with Jet Li for the second time ever - and i liked it just as much as last time; this much: |----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| which is alot. Oh and i'll give a picture i got of Jordan and i fooling around in the Cannon Center - those 12 pnut bars were all connected so i just took them all! we ate most of them, but it took determination, courage, and a little bit of dishonesty (we snuck two out).

The Week of Leap year and the beginning of March!

Well...

This last week was a very eventful one - probably mostly because BYU soccer tryouts time again (alot of waking up 6:30 a.m. and earlier...) like i said in my earlier post, i went to the Jazz game (see previous post for details). Then Thursday started the tryouts (5:30 is when i woke up...) i did ok, but i didn't even make it past the first cut. Once again though, i feel like that was the best choice; i had all of the rest of my senior year/summer after not straight up making the team last March to work on my game... and i didn't, then i had more motivation in the fall when practicing with the team, but i didn't. So i basically am not very good anymore, but at least the blame falls completely on me. We'll see how easily I'll let go of my dream though...



but Saturday was pretty eventful:
I went to like a floor date thing the girls put on, which was pretty fun - basically just chilling together really. We then had an intramural basketball game (Jordan, and my team - Jon is on it too), we had 9 and the other team only had 5 players, so we beat them pretty easily. but mostly i was happy to score (I'd been on a scoring drought, more accurately a shooting drought) as well as got a block - which always makes me feel good about a game. Then there was a birthday party/dance at a girl in the ward's like relatives house. It was a "shorts" party (I've heard because the guys who's birthday it was are all really short) and so when i happened to be at DI with Harry, Jordan, and Mack D, i bought some basically booty shorts (see pic). It was a really fun party, and i danced it up with my short shorts, bow tie, knee-high socks, and my sneakers. (you can kindof see the end of my shorts in the pic, just imagine where they are in relation to my thigh... hehe...)



Oh and then when we got back we found that someone had been able to get into our room and take our mattresses, chairs, our desk drawer (the whole thing), and our underwear. This was after we had just pranked some other guys by taking their chairs, pillows, food/cupboard that has all their food, their socks, and their drawers. So we knew who did it, and decided to stick it to them and pretend like nothing happened. So come night time, they felt bad because they still had our mattresses, and we just ignored them. Jordan slept on some couch cushions, and i just got alot of blankets and my comforter. I slept pretty well for on a bed frame, and we still have the upper hand on poor old Bennett and Tanner. I'll give some pics that show personality of the two: Tanner is the blond one w/ the jean jacket in the power stance. Bennett is the black haired fellow who's picture needs no explanation. Then the next one is me in Chris's (another guy in the hall) black stretchy suit about to be slapped by Tanner.

Jazz vs. Pistons

hey everyone,

i was going to do this with my weekly weekend one, but after Ben's prompting to put up pictures i decided to do it now. I'd never been to a premier level pro sports game (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, etc...) so i decided that i'd go to a Utah Jazz game because i was so close (relatively). So I planned it out ahead with Jordan. We both wanted to see the Detroit Pistons because we both really like the team. So this Wednesday, i went with three other guys (Jordan ironically couldn't go) to the game. We had "nosebleed" seats, pretty close to as far away as you can get, but they were only $13.50, so i was totally fine with that. It was pretty awesome - Detroit was destroying Utah for the whole first half, just totally rocking them. Utah came back, with the help of like 3 three's in a row from Mehmet Okur, to win the game with the biggest lead they had the whole game (one of the only leads...). it was pretty awesome and entertaining. The main thing was that i was really impressed with Chauncy Billups (he was the best on the floor, no doubt), Richard Hamilton, and Deron Williams. It was pretty cool to see the guys i've always heard about and seen on TV. Especially Rasheed Wallace, because I've grown up knowing who he was. the first video is just showing our seats and the guys (the kid next to me and the two right behind us). The second was the first of Okur's 3 three's that i just caught on camera. the rest are random pictures i took. none of them are of us, but who's more exciting; us, or a NBA baskeball game... thought so.

Random whatever this week...

So, this week not too much of anything special happened. I'm definitely getting better at hockey - which makes it even more fun!

the only true thing of note other than the BYU VS. Utah bball game, which we won, was that i went to a BYU ballet on Thursday for my humanities class. It was the BYU Theatre Ballet doing "ballet in concert". i noticed at the Richard's building they had a display up about it and i also noticed that the dancers were rather attractive. so i decided to go w/ some other guys in HUM 101. It was pretty cool - i'd never been to a ballet and so it was a good experience. The classic ballet parts were pretty cool, and the team wasn't too bad at all (though i bet world class ballet would be just amazing). They did try and do some more modern stuff which was slightly weird at times - especially because we went to see a ballet. but it was overall pretty cool. not as good as Midsummer's, but oh well - until next week

Skiing and sports

hey everyone, i had a very interesting and tiring week. I went skiing (just to Sundance) on Tuesday with some of the people in my ward. Man i was not in skiing shape at all - got the leg burn from the first run! so i slowed them down a little bit.

On Thursday i really enjoyed playing hockey for my class at the open lab, and i played pretty well - starting to get better. I then had an Intramural basketball game we/I played bad but man i was tired at the end of that day...then on Friday, Jordan and another kid in our ward woke up at 6:30 to play pickup bball. Then, i went with Harry, Tyler Yorgason, and Melissa B. to Brighton for nightskiing and man was it fun! the best resort i've been to by far, and we didn't even get to see the whole mountain. i had alot of fun and improved i think.

but as you can tell this week has been FULL of activities. Of course i did schoolwork too but i always do that. i don't always go skiing and play bball that much... whew but it was fun, even with all of the soreness. Well, until next week!

My introduction to both live Shakespeare and BYU stage

On Friday, February 1st i went to BYU's production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream", mainly because i need to for my Humanities class, but i was also interested and had heard only good things about this production.

I was luckily able to go even though Jordan gave away the ticket he had gotten for me... this is because one guy on my floor had 3 extra tickets and i volunteered to use them up as soon as i found out (like 15 min before the show).

The play was done slightly artistically, (though Midsummer definitely needs some of that when dealing with at least the fairy world part) with only eight pillar/arch type things that were placed/slid to certain ways to mimic either the forest, majestic building, or simple one. (oh and some wavy horizontal beams to close in/ create a ceiling). also the garb of the "athenians" were neither truly athenian or shakespearian, more of just formal (though with a old look - coattails, vests, suspenders etc...)

anyways on to what i thought of it. I REALLY enjoyed it, it was awesome. everyone else i talked to and the people i went with all agreed as well. A very well done play for an already well-written play ( i like the story and comedies in general). it was sentimental to hilarity in the right parts, yet just right sometimes as well. also some modern humor (like a kitty-like growl by the lion in the pyramus and thisbee play) along with the Shakespeare. i really didn't expect this blog to be this long, but it makes some sense considering i really liked it.

um i guess i'll just try and do at least one post a weekend, seems to be the best idea -

New Semester

Hey everyone,

i usually don't put up anything unless i have pictures to go along with it, but that has meant that i haven't posted for a long time... So i'll just say how everything is going.

This semester is pretty cool, i'm taking Archaeology/Anthropology (intro to), Humanities 101, BOM 122, Survey of World Religions - prompted by Jon. Also Hepe 105, Soccer practice basically (7 am every morning OUCH). And then last but not least a Hockey Class.

my Archaeology and Humanities classes aren't super fun to go to, but i've really started to enjoy Humanities - especially when recently we (some of the guys in my hall also in the class) went to the Museum of Art at BYU and picked a piece of art. it was really fun and cool. If you want to know i did "No Place to Go" by Maynard Dixon. i would put an image of it up but i'd have to write for permission to the MOA so i'll just give you that link on the painting name.

Soccer practice hasn't started yet, just lifting whenever the guys want to, so i'm making sure to get exercise in. The Hockey class is the best - i am still not very good at hockey, but i'm getting better at everything slowly. like backwards skating and hockey stops as well as puckhandling and shooting. SO much fun...

I am still a Home Evening Group leader, but i have a new "family" including a new assistant, who ironically used to be Jordan's assistant (aka "wife"). So there are definitely jokes about the roommate stealing the "wife" and stuff like that.

also i was able to play HL2 Episode one FINALLY and am working on Episode 2. don't worry parents they are not long games and i don't play them all the time. i spend more time on Hockey and all my classes individually (with the exception of Hepe - but just because i've haven't focused on it yet) than the games. but they rock still...

So this semester is definitely going well so far!
